    The Rainbow Bridge

A Letter to My Beloved Animal Companion

    My dearest [Animal's Name],

You've crossed over the Rainbow Bridge now, and I can picture you there so clearly. Just this side of heaven stretches a beautiful land of endless meadows and rolling hills, bathed in soft golden light and warm sunshine that never fades. The grass is lush and cool under your paws, and there's always fresh water to drink and plenty to eat—everything you could ever want.

All the aches and tiredness that weighed on you here are gone. Your body is whole and strong again; you run and leap and play without a single twinge of pain. You chase butterflies, roll in the soft fields, and romp with other special souls who've gone before—old friends and new ones, all joyful and free. There's no sadness, no loneliness, only peace and the purest happiness.

And every day, you wait with bright eyes and a wagging tail (or happy purrs and twitching whiskers and whinnies), sniffing the breeze for the moment when you'll catch my scent on the wind. When that day comes, you'll know—your ears will perk up, your heart will race, and you'll break away from the others, running faster than ever toward me. We'll meet again right there at the bridge, I'll scoop you into my arms, feel your warm fur against my face, and cover you in all the kisses I've been saving. The tears we've cried apart will turn to joy, and then we'll cross over together—never to be separated again.

Until then, sweet one, know that you're safe, loved beyond measure, and forever young at heart. Play hard, rest easy, visit me often and keep a piece of my heart with you. I'm holding onto yours every single day.
I love you more than words can say.
    Yours forever and always.
