What Animals Experience as They Cross Over

What Animals Experience as They Cross Over

One of the questions I'm asked most often is what happens to our animal companions when they pass. Over the years, the animals themselves have shown me glimpses of this journey and while every experience is unique, some beautiful patterns show up again and again.

Many animal companions describe it simply as falling asleep in one place and waking up in another. There's no fear in how they share this, no struggle. It's gentle, like drifting off in warm sun and opening their eyes somewhere new.

Every animal I've connected with describes a guide meeting them for this journey, someone from the other side who crosses over to walk them through it. They are never alone. This guide might be a being of light, a beloved animal, or a person they recognize, and their presence brings deep safety to the whole experience.

Often, "somewhere new" is reached through light. Many describe moving through a bright emerald green or white light and emerging into a place that feels vivid and alive, lush green grass, wide open blue sky, warm sun reaching every part of them. Others describe traveling across bands of rainbow light, which is where the Rainbow Bridge comes from, and it's every bit as radiant as the name suggests.

They're rarely met by just one soul. Most describe being greeted by several to many animals and people they know and love, a whole gathering of welcome. And often, what they show me isn't an unfamiliar place, but a return to their original home, somewhere they knew before.

What strikes me most is the consistency of feeling underneath these images; peace, lightness, belonging. None of the animals I've connected with have described crossing over as frightening. They describe it as a continuation, a soft unfolding into somewhere green, bright, and full of light, surrounded by love the whole way.

If you've lost an animal companion, I hope this offers comfort. The connection doesn't end, it simply changes shape.
