Past-Life Bonds: Have We Loved This Animal Before?

There's a question I get asked in a hushed voice, almost like the person is afraid it sounds silly: "Do you think I've known my dog before? In another life?"

It's not silly. It's one of the most common things that comes through in a session, and it's usually not something I go looking for. It just surfaces on its own, in the middle of an otherwise ordinary conversation about behavior or health, this sense of familiarity that goes back further than the day you brought them home.

I've learned to trust that feeling when it shows up, because animals don't experience time the way we do, and their souls don't either. Some bonds are new in this lifetime, formed fresh, and that's beautiful too. But others carry a weight to them from the very first meeting. You know the ones. The rescue who looked at you like they already knew your name. The cat who chose you across a crowded shelter, no hesitation, like they were finishing a conversation you'd started somewhere else.

When I connect with an animal and that past-life thread is there, it often explains things that don't otherwise make sense. Why a person feels an instant, almost overwhelming love for an animal they've only just met. Why certain goodbyes feel less like an ending and more like "see you soon." Why some souls, animal and human both, seem to keep finding their way back to each other, lifetime after lifetime, in whatever form love needs to take.

You don't need to have a session to sense this in your own life. If you've ever looked at an animal and felt a recognition you couldn't explain, a certainty that ran deeper than logic, that's worth paying attention to. Not every bond is a soul contract carried across lifetimes. But some are, and your animal already knows which kind you share.

If this resonates with you and a companion in your life, sit with it rather than dismiss it. The soul remembers what the mind forgets, and animals have never needed convincing on this point. They're usually just waiting for us to catch up.
