Love does not end at the edge of a body. When an animal companion crosses the rainbow bridge, they step out of their fur and bones, but never out of the bond. That thread between you, woven from years of quiet mornings, shared walks, and the simple grace of being known by another soul, does not break. It simply waits.

And sometimes, when the time is right, they choose to come home.

You'll catch it first in something small. The way the new one tilts her head at exactly that angle. The particular spot he claims on the couch, the one no one taught him to love. A look in the eyes that stops you mid-sentence because you have seen that look before, and you know it the way you know your own name.

This is not coincidence. This is love finding its way back into form, choosing once again to walk beside you. They return because you are their person, and the pull of that belonging is stronger than any veil between worlds. They return because there is more joy to share, more lessons to gently teach, more comfort to offer on the hard days.

So when you meet a new companion and feel that strange, sweet recognition rise up in your chest, trust it. Welcome them the way you would welcome an old friend who has traveled a long way to find you.

Because that's exactly what they've done.
