Have you ever been sitting quietly, missing a beloved animal companion who has passed, when suddenly a butterfly lands nearby, closer than seems natural, almost as if it's looking right at you? Or a dragonfly hovers at eye level just a little too long to be coincidence?

It may not be coincidence at all.

Animals in spirit are clever, loving, and deeply motivated to let us know they're still with us. And one of the most beautiful ways they do this is by enlisting the help of small, winged messengers: butterflies, dragonflies, hummingbirds, bees, and moths, to carry their love across the veil.

Think of it as a co-creation between souls. Your animal companion in Heaven reaches out to one of these tiny beings and, in the language that all animals share, asks for a favor: "Go to her. Sit with him for a moment. Let them feel me." And so they do.

These messengers tend to appear at exactly the right moment; on an anniversary, on a hard day when grief feels fresh, or simply when you've been thinking of your beloved companion and quietly wondering if they're okay. The timing is never random.

Each species carries its own energy. Butterflies often signal transformation and the reminder that the soul lives on in a new, lighter form. Dragonflies bring the message that things are not always as they appear — that the spirit world is closer than we think. Hummingbirds carry pure joy, a burst of "I am still here, and I am happy." Moths, drawn to light, remind us that love always finds its way through the dark. And bees who are industrious, purposeful, may be delivering the most direct message of all: I'm still busy loving you.

The next time one of these small creatures pauses in your world just a little longer than expected, take a breath. Be still. Open your heart and simply receive. Your animal companion in Heaven worked to get that message to you.

    Don't let it pass unnoticed.
